2025 had big shoes to fill after such the eventful year in music that 2024 brought us. Record of the Year: Kehlani x Folded
I feel like I have to give it to Kehlani this year, the way that this record put R&B back at the forefront of the music scene was beautiful to see. “Folded” feels like such a perfect 00’s record, and even feels like there’s a sample or two in it (though she has spoken on this, explaining that it contains no samples). I love the long introduction, building the anticipation and setting a tone before her voice is even heard. The chorus will become timeless, one of the ones we sing around our children and grandchildren in the future in my opinion, this song just has that feeling. Not only is it Kehlani’s most successful song to date (hoping she wins at least one Grammy for this), it kick started this era for her next project, which I can only assume is coming later this year. If this is how Kehlani is coming for a full project…sign me up.
